Carpet cleaning, for beautification, and the removal of stains, dirt, grit, sand, and allergens can be achieved by several methods, both traditional and modern. Clean carpets are recognized by manufacturers and homeowners alike as being more visually satisfying, potentially longer-lasting, and probably healthier than poorly maintained carpets. Sanitary Maintenance magazine reports that carpet cleaning is widely misunderstood, and chemical developers have only, within recent decades, created new carpet-care technologies.

Within the USA, the professional carpet-cleaning business is mostly educated and unofficially regulated by The Clean Trust, previously the Institute of Review, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification. This is a nonprofit certifying human body for the specialized cloth-cleaning industry that sets modern carpet-cleaning standards. It accepts five basic dry and wet professional cleaning methodologies.

Now, vacuuming is where a lot of people tend to begin when keeping their carpeting from getting too dirty. That, then, is where we’ll begin this article on carpet-cleaning suggestions. Carpets have to be vacuumed once a week and more frequently in regions of heavy traffic. Frequent vacuuming prolongs the life of your carpet by preventing a buildup of gritty particles that can cut carpet fibers. Every couple of weeks, take just a little additional time and use your crevice tool for cleaning around baseboards and radiators and in other hard-to-reach spots. Pay particular attention to the areas where people sit and move their feet. Vacuum these areas of heavy traffic with a crisscross pattern of overlapping strokes.

There will come a period in the life of every carpet when vacuuming can no longer restore its clean appearance. There are four major indicators of the need for a deep-cleaning job: the carpet is matted and feels sticky; the carpet is no longer the same shade as the remnant you saved when the carpet was new; the carpet has grimy circles around the chairs; or the carpet releases a dust storm when you run across the room.

Until you have the time and strength to do a thorough cleaning job, it is time to call in the pros like Fosters Carpet Care to do some deep cleaning. One of the most successful procedures for deep, or restoration cleaning, is hot-water extraction, also known by the misnomer steam cleaning. Many fiber producers and carpet manufacturers recommend this approach because of its soil removal capabilities.

Nevertheless, hot-water extraction may possibly bring with it some drawbacks, including slow drying, a low production rate, in addition to being fully a labor-intensive process. Chances are, as advances are made in equipment and chemistry, there will be less reliance on these types of methods.

With the continuing appearance of carpet in large commercial/industrial/institutional markets, the demand for proper carpet maintenance programs should increase, which bodes well for the really professional carpet-care service business. With the programs that are being tested, outlined at the recent IICRC Certification Board meeting, perhaps the issue of which system does or does not work will someday be put behind us, and we can get on with the more fundamental premise: Clean carpets, earn money.

When you hire Foster’s Carpet Care you know precisely how much your work is going to cost and also this number will not change. When you get affordable, high quality service to your Scottsdale home that delivers results, you will soon be grinning when the job is complete.

If you come to a point in time when you need to buy new carpet, what kind of carpet should you buy? There is different quality levels in the carpets produced. What makes the difference is the density of the fibers, the amount of twist that is put into the fibers, and the style of the carpet.

There are many different materials and manufactures, but for residential homes I prefer nylon carpet. Nylon holds up the best, in my opinion. Ninety percent of the carpets are made of nylon because it’s the best in holding up to wear and the easiest to clean. Once you pick your price point, you can see which carpet you like and just stay with the nylon.

Some other carpets are made out of polyester, which I don’t like at all. Oils bond with these fibers and don’t clean off too easily. Also, the wear pattern is terrible; once you have a traffic area, the wear pattern never goes away. The fibers wear down on the tips and have a graying that can’t be reversed. It does have a natural colored stain resistance, but that’s the only selling point that polyester can boast. Beware that there are some other carpets that go by other names but are really just polyester in disguise. The manufacturer, aware of polyester’s flaws, changes the name, but the carpet still cleans and wears the same.

What do you do when you have a really strong pet urine odor? First off, we provide free estimates inScottsdale,Phoenix, Casa Grande,Tucson, and all surrounding areas. We use a UV light (black light) to spot urine in the carpet where you can’t see it with the naked eye. The light shows where and how heavily concentrated the urine is. Depending on the results, Fosters Carpet Care has three different methods of removing the urine.

A phase 1 urine treatment is designed for the light to moderate urine deposits where our enzyme is applied to the carpet and allowed to dwell to penetrate the fibers and eat the urine. It is then cleaned to reveal a restored carpet.

For the heavier concentrations, we have a phase 2 and 3 which both involve changing the pad in the contaminated area and cleaning and treating both sides of the carpet. The difference between 2 and 3 is the product used and the amount of time the product will sit on the carpet before it is washed off.

In most cases, we can save more carpets than people think. Before you replace, have us come and give you a free estimate.

For all of your Scottsdale carpet cleaning needs, remember to call Fosters Carpet Care and Repair. Thank you!

What do you do if a carpet is too saturated with urine and you need to replace it? It’s not as easy as just replacing the carpet and pad. If you do that, you could end up with a lingering urine odor. With bad urine problems, the urine goes right through the carpet and pad and soaks into the sub-floor. To fix this, it can be treated or sealed. Concrete is easy to seal ,but a wood sub-floor may need several applications. However, your installer usually provides that.

Another area of concern is your tack-less strip. If your pet was a wall sprayer, be sure to remove all the wooden strips that were affected. The wood absorbs a lot of urine, and it is cheap enough to change out rather than attempt to have it treated.

Third, check your baseboards, walls, doors, and anything within spraying distance. These materials absorb and hold a lot of urine, and you may need to treat, seal, or replace some of them. We’ve seen baseboards swelled to twice the normal size from absorbing urine. If that’s the case with you, then they need to be replaced. Hopefully you won’t need all of this, but be sure to check.

There are several reasons why carpet develops wrinkles. Here are a few of the most common ones we see.

Loose install: if the carpet was not properly installed at time of installation it will become wrinkled over time as foot traffic begins to work and stretch the carpet. If the carpet is properly installed using a power stretcher (which is not always done) not a knee kicker wrinkles are not likely to become a problem. If your having new carpet installed it would be prudent to have a life time installation guarantee and ensure they use a power stretcher. A power stretcher pushes off the opposite wall with a long bar across the room where the carpet is then set into the tackless strips.

Delamination: This occurs where the primary backing and the secondary backing of the carpet separate causing a wrinkle on the surface. There are several ways this can occur. One is improper spot cleaning, using a solvent based cleaner. Although solvent based cleaners are very effective on oil grease tar, if you use too much at a time it will penetrate into the backing of the carpet and break down the latex which holds the primary and secondary backings together. Office chairs with rollers are another culprit of delamination as the constant to and from motion of the wheels over and over again working the backings of the carpet together a and thus breaking down the latex again causing a wrinkle. Those plastic mats help a lot to prevent this from happening. Water damage is another cause for delamination if not properly dried. Saturated carpet causes the latex to weaken and with normal foot traffic delamination occurs. Good news is this can be prevented by completely drying the carpet and pad. The latex regains its strength and integrity without damage. Small areas of delamination can be fixed by reapplying the latex to the back, however this is time consuming and the results are good but often not as good as new.

Should you use a spotter or home carpet cleaning machine? Absolutely! The quicker you are able to get to cleaning spots and spills the better. If you’re able to get to spills quick enough, most can be cleaned and rinsed with only water. If you’re cleaning your whole carpet remember to use a little or the smallest amount of soap possible, more is definitely not better even if the carpet is bad. The more shampoo you use the more residuals are left in the carpet. Home cleaners don’t have the power or heat commercial units have so they have to make up the difference with a stronger cleaning solution so they tend to leave more residue. That isn’t too bad, but if there’s several cleanings on top of each other it’s good to have it professionally cleaned in between once in a while to rinse everything out. You can also rinse the carpet after it’s cleaned with water or an acid solution which is water with a little bit of white vinegar and that will counter the soap. Please remember to call Fosters Carpet Care for your Scottsdale carpet cleaning needs as well as the rest of the valley, Tucson and Casa Grande, Fosters carpet Care.

Some people put off cleaning their new carpets because they believe once you get a new carpet cleaned it gets dirty faster. This was once the case with the shampoos used years ago. They would leave a residue that would attract dirt and hold onto it so it was true that carpets got dirtier, faster.

Cleaning products have come a long ways since those days. Cleaning products are made specifically for carpets now with very low residuals to keep your carpet as clean as when you bought it. We pretreat the carpet with an alkaline cleaner then clean and rinse the carpet with an acid based rinsing agent that rinses the carpet better than water does. This leaves the carpet residue free, Ph neutral, and very soft. This is also a must if a protectant is going to be applied because the protectants are acid and need the carpets to be natural or acid to adhere to. If the carpet was cleaned with an alkaline cleaner and left that way the acid based protectant would just neutralize much of it making it not as effective. So don’t hold off on any Scottsdale carpet cleaning needs or anywhere else in the Valley of the Sun and we also clean in Tucson and Casa Grande.

A lady was moving out of her apartment and was worried that the apartments were going to charge her for her carpet due to some bleach stains on it. She called us to give her an estimate and see if we could save her. When we got there, her story was that she had a fight with her boyfriend and got so mad that she took a gallon of bleach and was going to poor it all over his clothes hanging in the closet. Well they started struggling over the bottle splashing bleach all over the bedroom. Good thing there was furniture in the room or it could’ve been a lot worse but there was still about thirty little bleach
spots throughout. I don’t know how the relationship ended up in the end but we were able to spot dye the spots to the original color and the apartments never knew and the nice lady got her deposit back. So for all your Scottsdale carpet cleaning needs as well as Tucson, Casa Grande, and the rest of the valley, thanks for reading.
